I thought about Matsuo Basho’s haiku, ‘A cicada shell’
a cicada shell
it sang itself
utterly away
as a way to understand instrumental music, but really, why do we need to understand?
I have broken out of the daily routine of posting, and can name or not name my recordings any old way. So this is ‘Cicada,’ structured around the opening and first few transitions in a certain practice that shall not be named. Unintentionally, this started to drift into elements of an old piece of mine called ‘The Chair’:
